Rounding Whole Numbers: the Neighbor Method

Steps

Find the place. Underline the place you round to.
Look next door. The digit on the right is the neighbor.
Strong neighbor (5–9) → raise the score. Weak neighbor (0–4) → let it rest.
Digits die. Every digit to the right becomes zero: 4,671 → 4,700.
Rhyme: “Find the place, look next door. Five or more, raise the score. Four or less, let it rest.”
